WHAT WE DO

MS Research raises money to fund a range of research projects to address or alleviate the problems people living with MS face every day. We also provide access to training and educational programmes for both professionals and those living with MS.

Please see below for more information on projects we have been and are involved in. You can also find information on our key achievements from this page, and links to our grant funding pages for researchers.

Research

MS Research is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) non-commercial Partner. This means the studies that we fund may be eligible to access the NIHR Study Support Service which is provided by the NIHR Clinical Research Network.

The NIHR Clinical Research Network can now support health and social care research taking place in both NHS and non-NHS settings, including studies running in care homes or hospices, or public health research taking place in schools and other community settings.

We aim to fund any research that will progress improved treatment or further our understanding of MS. This includes occasionally providing new research equipment or testing new procedures. In 2018 this included assisting the purchase of a new head and neck MRI coil for imaging studies of the brain stem and upper spinal cord.

We also supported some additional work on a stem cell study that aims to gain a better understanding of the functional capability of stem cells from people with MS compared with non-MS donors. Under our theme of difficult to treat symptoms studies on MS related tremor were completed and new equipment is now in use to help us better understand MS tremor.
