Treatment
As well as funding research into MS treatments, we have long played an active role in providing treatment courses for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.
In-person treatments are held in our offices at The Vassal Centre in Bristol. If you are interested in signing up for one of our courses or supported services, please
Live courses
Fatigue management course
We run a group programme called FACETS to help people with MS manage their fatigue. With six 90-minute sessions over six weeks, this provides:
- tools and strategies to manage energy levels more effectively
- ways to explore different, more helpful ways of thinking about fatigue.
Our FACETS courses are free on referral from a GP or MS practitioner. Most are held in our offices in Bristol, but since the pandemic, we have also started offering some via video conference.
"This course has been amazing. It's an awesome thing to do to provide a point of contact and connection for people with MS, the perspectivee gained from shared experience is excellent. It would be, I think, hugely beneficial to newly diagnosed pateints given the misunderstanding and ambiguity around fatigue. Thank you so much for this, it's genuinely changed my life."
Other courses
Hand and Arm Advisory Service
While funding research into the debilitating and hard-to-manage symptom of arm and hand tremor, we set up a free monthly advisory service. Run by a neuro Occupational Therapist, this is designed to assess and advise on hand tremor and other problems, such as reduced dexterity, muscle weakness and numbness, and provide the opportunity to try a variety of aids.
We are not currently running this clinic, but if you would like further information about this, please
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Assessments
Footdrop – difficulty lifting the foot up at the ankle when swinging the leg forward – is a common and often early cause of walking difficulties in people with Multiple Sclerosis.
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a non-invasive technique that can help people with footdrop walk more easily. Using electrical impulses at just the right time during the gait cycle, FES stimulates the muscles that lift the foot. It can lead to significant improvements in posture, gait and balance and can also reduce fatigue levels and muscle pain.
We no longer provide assessments for FES at The Vassal Centre in Bristol, but for more information on FES, please email
"The course was helpful and well worth my time. The diagrams were excellent especially explaining nerve movement. This is especially helpful to people early on in MS."
Bladder and Bowel Course
Developed in conjunction with a MS Specialist nurse, this free two-week programme has been designed to provide information and coping strategies to deal with bladder and bowel problems, which are common in MS.
We are not currently running this course. If you are interested in attending a future bladder and bowel course please
