How to promote your fundraiser

 

Regardless of what your event is, there are loads of ways you can let people know that you are fundraising for MS Research, the higher number of people you reach, the larger amount of money you will raise.

  • Create a fundraising page

There are many ways you can promote your fundraiser, creating a fundraising page online allows your event to reach large numbers of people. JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving are quick to set up and easy to use.

  • Make it personal

When creating a fundraising page it is important to explain why you have chosen to raise funds for MS Research, your motivation will inspire your supporters. It can be awkward asking people to give to your cause but people will be more likely to donate if you personalise your fundraising page if you explain why you have chosen to fundraise for MS Research and how valuable funds will be. Fundraising pages with personalised messages of why they are undertaking the event constantly generate more funds, get your message across to your potential supporters!

  • Set a target

Setting a fundraising target can help create momentum and provides you with a focused aim. Your target should be realistic but an amount that you would be proud to raise. Pages that have fundraising targets are much more likely to receive higher amounts of donations.

  • Use social media

Social Media - Using social media is an excellent way to promote your fundraising page and event, remember to tag MS Research in your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts as this raises awareness of our charity. Encourage your online friends to share your fundraising page far and wide.

  • Email everyone

Emailing your address book contacts is a great way of gaining the attention of people who may not use social media.

  • Contacting local media

Your event becoming a news story is a great way to reach people you do not know. It can help you gain more supporters as well as increasing awareness of MS Research and the work we do. Writing press releases with all necessary information can improve the likelihood of your fundraiser gaining publicity as it saves journalists time taken to contact you.   • Keep your supporters updated

Let your supporters know how your preparation for the event is coming along, remember to thank donors for their generosity. A lot of donations come in after the event is completed so be sure to update your page after the event saying how you got on.

  • Tell everyone

Spread the word! Tell everyone you know of your fundraiser and encourage friends, family and co-workers to do the same.
